2.3.2    Department Background

Centre of Knowledge, Communication & Technology (PPKT) was established in December 2002. There are four entities that have been combined under this center. The four entities are ICT services, Administration, Academics and Management Information System (MIS). PPKT’s main mission is to provide competent and effective ICT for the campus community and community outside of the camps.

PPKT is responsible for coordinating ICT support services at all three campuses, main campus in Penag, engineering campus in Nibong Tebal, Penang and Health Campus in Kelantan. The services include:

1.      Computer and telecommunication network infrastructure
2.      Application administration and management
3.      Computing facilities and ICT support service

PPKT is a catalyst and co-workers to administrative entity, research, teaching and learning at the local and regional level. PPKT’s motto is ‘Enable and Innovate (Enovate)’ reflects the determination to achieve the objective. The figure 2.2 shows the Enovate logo.

2.3.3    Vision and Mission

Vision:
PPKT serves as a catalyst for innovation. Complement the Role of ICT operation with strategic needs based on knowledge, research and innovation, local and global levels.

            Mission:

As a provider of ICT services of competent and effective in the context of:
·         Teaching and Learning
·         Research and Innovation
·         Management Process


PPKT ensure the availability of services which may be hope for the infrastructure and services provided in accordance with the operational and strategic needs of the University.


2.3.4    Objective


Ensure continuity of ICT services to the vision and mission of the University by:

·         Contribute to the APEX’s agenda
·         Provide excellent customer support services
·         Contribute to the improvement of effective skills

PPKT also has Online Planner which is a system that facilitates the staff in managing their meetings, identify the activities that will take place and who is involved so that a plan can be implemented more effectively. Staff can also obtained others information through this system such as campus activities, staff holidays, public holidays for federal and state, payroll day and staff birthday.
